On the official Liverpool website today Harry Kewell has issued a statement that he plans to get himself a new deal at Liverpool as his current one runs out in the summer.
So you may ask yourself just how does Harry plan on earning this new deal ?
Is he going to push himself that extra few yards in training?
Is he going to give Rafa 110% every game he plays for Liverpool in hoping that the manager feels he is integral to Liverpools future?
Well actually no, its none of them. Harry Kewell has decided at the most important part of our season he wants to join up with Australia at a meaningless training camp.
We have Man United on Sunday followed by Everton and then the three games against Arsenal all coming up so to help Liverpool in their march for glory Harry Kewell decides to swan off.
This guy owes us and he owes us big time. There is no denying his quality and when we first signed him from Leeds i actually thought that Houllier had pulled off a masterstroke and that Kewell could help us towards winning the Premier League.
In all fairness i thought Kewell started his Liverpool career off pretty well but as soon as the injuries started it appeared that Kewell motivation for the game ended.
Even now when you see him in his brief cameo appearances he has lost his pace and rarely beats the opposition full back.
He is like a heavy weight boxer coming back for his final fight. Tired, against the ropes and in the ring purely for one last pay day.
With the emergence of Ryan Babel on the left and the fact that Kewell doesn’t really offer us anything now other then keeping the Liverpool physio in a job i cant see the point in Rafa offering Kewell another highly paid contract and i fully expect him to leave in the summer and join a team like Fulham or a small club like Everton but if they are hoping to sign a player who will fight for his team then they had best look elsewhere then Harry Kewell.
